Film and Animation Submission Guidelines

Early Bird Deadline: December 1, 2009
Standard/Final Deadline: February 28, 2010
All filmmakers must follow these guidelines for possible inclusion in the D.C. Deaf Film Festival:
- All genres are welcome (film and animation).
- Films must be Deaf-related, Deaf-produced or contain use of sign language. (Note: Relevant films made by hearing filmmakers are also accepted.)
- Films can be of any length.
- Films must have all clearances and rights for viewing at the D.C. Deaf Film Festival.
- Submitted films (and trailers and discussion clips) must be in uncompressed NTSC format on DVD disks (preferred), mini DV tapes or CD-Rom disks. NTSC is the standard US format for video.
- You may submit as many films as you like.
- A submission form must be completed (in English) for each film.
- Captions (and English subtitles) are strongly encouraged (not required).
Submission Procedures:
Step 1: Fill out the relevant documents for your film(s).
1. Print and complete D.C. Deaf Film Festival's film submission form
(Note: One for each film).
Step 2: Submit your work and other relevant document(s) and any other information to the D.C. Deaf Film Festival.
1. Film submission form(s).
2. Your film, trailer and discussion film clip on DVD disks (preferred), or CD-ROM disks.
3. Any information, production still(s), print materials, reviews, etc that you would like us to see.
4. Mail your film(s) and other(s) to:

All entries must arrive before Early Bird Deadline at 11:59 PM on December 1, 2009. The Standard/Final Deadline is February 28, 2010. We will notify you via email when your entry is received.
By submitting your film to us, you are agreeing to our D.C. Deaf Film Festival terms of agreement for film submission posted below.
Additional notes:
Your film may not be accepted if it does not come with the completed form required for submission. The screening committee will view all the films submitted to the film festival and will select the films.
The filmmakers will be notified of their selection by email and announced on this website as soon as the screening committee can (by approximately mid-April at the latest).
The filmmakers may be asked to participate in possible media interviews as well as promotion in the leadup to the Festival.
Note: Submitted tapes and materials will not be returned. We are under no obligation to accept, post or display anyone's work.
Terms of agreement (as of September 11, 2009):
- The terms of this agreement shall commence as of the date you physically submitted your film to us.
- In consideration of D.C. Deaf Film Festival efforts to market, promote, and screen your film, you grants to D.C. Deaf Film Festival the right to store, perform, display, transmit, and broadcast your film at the Film Festival.
- You permit D.C. Deaf Film Festival to use excerpts from your film for film festival event advertising or promotional purposes. This includes the right to publicly display and distribute any online and offline materials such as event program books, posters and flyers.
- No compensation will be granted for any screening at the Film Festival.
- If your film is not selected for this year's Film Festival, D.C. Deaf Film Festival may re-consider and select your film at the next film festival, and will let you know if it is selected.
- You agree to adhere to the terms of this agreement and guidelines/notes outlined on this website.
