Letter from 3rd D.C. Deaf Film Festival Chairperson Brianne Burger

March 26, 2010

Welcome to the 3rd DC Deaf Film Festival! We have come a long way from where we started in 2008. In 2008, two people decided to bring deaf films to the DC area in an annual festival much like the Rochester and Toronto film festivals. The film festival returned as the ASL Film Festival in 2009 with an astounding number of films from around the world with almost not enough time in the 3 days provided to show them all.

This 2010, we listened to the audience feedback and took in mind your needs and desires. The DC Deaf Film Festival returns as a multi-lingual event, accessible to both hearing and deaf audiences. Every film shown this weekend will provide two modes of communication with the audience either using sign language, voice over, and/or subtitles.

We stayed true with the festivals first mission: to provide local DC filmmakers a venue to show their work to the local community. We are happy to provide many more American films, as well as an international flavor in two segments of the festival.

There are more time for breaks, socialization with the filmmakers, and a top of the art theater with the latest technology, comfortable seating, and close proximity to public transportation and restaurants.

The DC Deaf Film Festival has worked hard to become one of the largest and most respected deaf film festivals around. Thank you for helping make it so. Now it is time to again come together as we see, think and feel film.

As wonderful as it is to keep track of all this information, I believe that our focus for this 2 day event should be as it always is on the filmmakers and the stories they bring to life on the screen.

Enjoy!
