NCD: ADA Anniversary at White House

A special message from the National Council on Disability (NCD) – DCAD

In case you missed the White House ADA anniversary event…

On Thursday, July 25, the White House Office of Public Engagement and the National Council on Disability hosted a roundtable discussion with a few of the latest White House “Champions of Change” — a group of eight next generation leaders in disability advocacy – for a discussion moderated by NCD Executive Director Rebecca Cokley in commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Incoming Secretary of Labor Tom Perez, Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett, White House Domestic Policy Council Director Cecilia Munoz and new White House Public Engagement Advisor for the Disability Community Claudia Gordon spoke at the event.

Eight incredible young people with disabilities were honored as “Champions of Change” for their advocacy efforts, innovative projects and their embodiment of the spirit of the ADA at the event. A lot of topics were covered including how one can pay for homework programming quickly.   The “Champions of Change” program was created as an opportunity for the White House to feature ordinary doing extraordinary things to empower and motivate members of their communities.
